What’s a Girl Supposed to Do?

BeadFX Blog Post – 04/13/22 – Anne Marie Desaulniers

What’s a girl supposed to do, when she knows that she should be either beading or stitching, but she’d rather just read a book? My inspiration is definitely lacking, despite my steady progress on the 100 Day Project.

I guess it’s just a mild case of the blues, but sometimes creative types just need to rest their brains. I’m definitely in a resting phase, but I know that I will eventually come out of it more energized. A little spring in my step would help, but for now I have little to show. Perhaps a trip to the beach is in order!

So, let’s start with some older projects.

I haven’t made one of my freeform peyote beads lately, so I wonder if I should? They’re fun, creative, intuitive, and use up some (but not much) of my stash.

What about this pendant that I made in a Kaska Firor class, at BeadFX years back? Isn’t it interesting, that with all the pretty stones she offered, that I chose a rock? LOL! But it’s a nicely shaped rock! By the way, she was an excellent instructor, and I’m sorry that I didn’t take one of her other classes.

Remember this bead soup? I made two necklaces out of it, and promised myself that I would make a third. That never happened! Do you think that it’s time?

I love my freeform peyote, and I especially love this crystal piece. Funny thing though, the beaded cover, and the actual quartz crystal have mysteriously parted ways. I know where the beaded sleeve is, but not the crystal. I wonder why the heck I separated them, and are there any crystal detectives out there, that will help me in my quest to find it? Crystals apparently work in mysterious ways!! I wonder if it’s telling me something (probably that my studio is in desperate need of spring cleaning)?

Then, what about my bead embroidered, and resin pendants? I must admit that I did purchase some new resin, so I do hope to play a little over the Easter weekend. Lucky me, I have four whole days off in a row!! I wonder what else I will do with them?

By the way, did you know that I’m running an in-store resin class, at BeadFX on the 23rd?

So, now onto my 100 Day Project, which I’m calling 100 Days of Play (check me out on Instagram). With these pieces, it’s not about perfection, but more about getting my ideas down on paper. So far, I’ve been heavily focused on mixed media, fibre, paper, collage, acrylic inks, and watercolours. I’ll probably drag in more techniques before the 100 days are over, but you will need to watch for the results.

Guess what I used to make the dark marks?

What’s a girl supposed to do when it’s time to finish this blog post, and get on with her reading? I wish that I could say that I’m reading anything but escapist novels, but I can’t, so I won’t!! When my brain needs a rest, it needs a rest! But then again, where does all the time go? The older I get, the faster it speeds. Do you notice that too? With all the free time that I’ve had with the Covid restrictions, you would think that time would pass more slowly, but no!

Keep safe, social distance, keep wearing a mask, wash your hands, and get vaccinated!
