My April 2022 Bead Mat Update is about adventure, creating, and exploring possibilities. Jewelry making, mixed media, retro items, and even a road trip come into play!
Let’s start with finishing up the necklace I started last week. I combined the wired-wrapped components, with brass rounds, and Olivine stones. In a design sense, the Olivine did exactly what I wanted, and quieted down the Mixed Impression Jasper. Now I have a fun, relaxed, casual necklace that will be perfect paired with a t-shirt, and jeans!!
But wait!!! What do you think of this wee Artist Brush that I dreamed up? Wine cork (used of course, but not by me), recycled feather from a rather time-worn Xmas wreath, then blinged up with Crystal Lane flatbacks. The real question is will it sit on a shelf, or actually get used to make some art? As it was gifted to a friend, that remains to be seen.
For the retro part of this post, some older resin pieces. Mostly workshop samples, but I have so many that I don’t really remember when they were actually made. One of these days, I’ll actually do something with them. Hoarding is one thing, but perhaps I should either gift, or get off my butt, make some jewelry, and sell a few.
The mixed media section of the post, is my 100 Day Project! I’m proud to say that I’m now up to 71/100 playful pieces, and still going strong!
My friend tempted me with a road trip, to The Cotton Harvest Quilt Shop, in Seaforth, Ontario. See below, for why I said she “tempted” me.
Valdani, and Sue Spargo, Eleganza variegated Perle cotton threads, are not the easiest things to find in Toronto. Why, I simply do not know? I know there are local shops that might carry them, but it would be either one, or the other, and certainly not both in the same shop!
It was a lovely day for a drive, and that blast of colour therapy, should hold me for a while.
We didn’t quite drop from the shopping, so decided to take a run to the beach in Goderich (on Lake Huron). We did wander a bit, but eventually ended up where we were obviously meant to go! The weather was perfect, the stones on the beach were rounded, and it was surrounded with a boardwalk. What more could we possible want?
I’m always on the lookout for good stones, and driftwood, so ended up picking up both. The driftwood was a little sparse (no photos), but who else do you know that gets excited by a bag of rocks? Although we didn’t spend a lot of time at the beach, I did manage to pick up some treasures.
I’m happy with my April 2022 bead mat update, despite the fact that beads were just a tiny part of the adventure. The weather is getting better, and I hope to do more exploring in the weeks to come. I promise to share!
Don’t forget, that the BeadFX Trunk show is on Saturday! Be there, or be square!! – Some of the proceeds will benefit Ukraine. BeadFX is having a shop sample sale, there will be a couple of “Make and Takes”, plus you’ll be able to snap up some prime, hand-made bling!
Keep safe, social distance, wear a mask, wash your hands, and get vaccinated!
