Not a Bead in Sight!

Not a bead in sight, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t still love them! All it means is that I’ve been otherwise occupied, as you’ll see below. A friend of mine, introduced me to Neurographic Line Drawings (here’s the video I followed), and I’m obsessed with the process! It’s addicting! I will let the drawings speak for themselves, but will refine the process over time. Who would have thought, that I’d actually find a bug in my drawing? It crawled right out, then begged for glitz, and attention!! LOL! Over at the Stitch Meditation Facebook group, I put up …

Reflections and Recollections: The time is now!

Reflections and recollections have been on my mind lately. But what does that have to do with the cost of beads, you say? Not much, but it’s a good opening act, so now I’ll get down to fleshing it all out. I’ve been dithering about during this pandemic, yet it might be time for me to start working on my mixed media jewelry again. Oh, I’ve been playing with this, and that, but mainly work of an ephemeral nature, so nothing that I could make into a collection. I was reminded of this, when I received an email from my …

July 2020 Bead Mat Update: Another mixed bag!

This July 2020 bead mat update, just about knocked me on the head! But how did it get so late in the year, and what will we do when summer is over? Well, with the heatwave that we’ve been having in Toronto, I’d say that cooler weather will be a welcome change, but then it’s human nature to complain about the weather, no matter what it’s doing. Last year, had so much rain, that at least one of the Lake Ontario beaches was closed, for most of the season. Now we have stinking hot, and a pandemic to deal with. …

The Search for Perfection: Is it even a possibility?

The search for perfection, is something that stops you from truly enjoying everything you do. Do you agree with me? I was programmed to search for perfection at a very early age? Were you? It’s definitely stressful, I generally ignored it, then went my own merry way! I love free motion machine embroidery, so decided to include it on my “Remnants” scroll (my Stitch Meditation, pandemic project). It’s quite addictive, but that’s no reason not to use it. Here’s my very old (possibly my grandmother’s), hardwood, machine embroidery hoop, that I forgot to use! Oops! In the centre is a …

Anatomy of a Project – Let the reader beware!

Anatomy of a project, is what I’ve decided to name this blogpost. Why, because it’s a catchy title, but also because it’s something to think about! I get easily bored, so my solution is to work in series. Oh, my series aren’t all the same, but they do have similar elements. They might be restricted by size, but then again, perhaps defined simply by shapes, themes, or colour. I’ve been working in series since around 2007, when I first joined the Bead Journal Project. The pieces were both size, shape, and time based, but also over-the-top, on my personal bead …

Hot Jewelry Trends: Spring/Summer 2020!

Hot jewelry trends, for summer 2020 (spring is already a done deal)! It’s just too darned hot to think, but that doesn’t mean that I can slack off! Toronto is melting right now, but at least I have air conditioning. I’m better off than many! There’s no sign of it stopping either! Rain/storms by the weekend, but it warms up again next week. Yes, a few degrees cooler, but still! I don’t normally complain about sunny weather, but it’s not quite the middle of July, and the grass is already getting fried! What will August bring? Now about the hot …

Happy Canada Day 2020!

Happy Canada Day 2020 to all of you! It doesn’t matter if you live in Canada or not, because if you’re reading this blog post, you’re an honorary Canadian!! 2020 is a year that most of us would like to forget, but that won’t happen, so we need to make the best of it. Instead, let’s focus on what’s good in our world! I won’t get into the political end of things, but we have family, friends, a fabulous health care system, and a government (both Federal, and Provincial), that is supporting us through these difficult times. We can get …

June 2020 Bead Mat Update: Beads, stones, and fibre!

June 2020 bead mat update, is a mix of many things, but all of them are colourful! When I think June, it’s the end of school, and the beginning of summer, but that’s gone all wacky on us this year. Summer started early, with a series of hot spells, yet no school days, except the home school variety. It’s definitely a different start to the vacation season. Speaking of vacations, the cottagers will still be heading north (or wherever), and the rest of us will probably be vacationing in place. Sigh! Speaking of hot spells, I’m still waiting for my …

All About Nothing: But bits about something!

All about nothing is good, when you have absolutely no inspiration, to help develop your blog post. But why, you say? Who really knows? This is going to be another of those streams of consciousness blog posts, and really, all about nothing, but I guess that’s better than not writing at all. My mind has been busy in other areas, with no room for real inspiration. But I’m actually chomping at the bit, because I know my creativity is hiding in there, somewhere! Let’s start with mask making! We are spiffing up the store, and making some necessary changes to …

Stitching and Straying!

Stitching and straying is a pretty funny title for a blog post, but is it? My creative spurts seem to be going in many different directions, so is it any wonder that I’m straying from the beading path? I guess that I should show you the only beading that I’ve been working on, my “Dancing” pandemic piece. As I’ve mentioned before, this piece came to me in a dream, has no end date, yet doesn’t know what it wants to be when it grows up. But it is a welcome distraction, uses up stash, and definitely serves to keep me …
