Champleve Enamel on Fine Silver Metal Clay (2 days)

February 16, 2019 @ 9:30 am - February 17, 2019 @ 5:00 pm

Cdn $190.00 +Kit fee: $50, payable to the instructor the day of the class.

Course outline: Champleve is a style of enamelling that uses depressions in a metal backing to generate a colourful design. In this class led by Christine Woollacott, students will create original jewellery designs or components using fine silver metal clay and colourful vitreous glass enamel. Fall in love with the luminous glow of glass fused to metal!

Note: this is a two-day class and will take place Saturday, February 16, 9:30am – 5:30pm; and Sunday, February 17, 10:00am – 5:00pm.

Skill level: Beginner Plus

Prerequisite: Experience working with fine silver metal clay.

Technique: Designing colourful jewellery or components using fine silver clay and glass enamel.

Bring to class:

  • Fine silver metal clay (Art Clay Silver and Prometheus are both available at BeadFX)
  • Personal Art clay tools (important tools include slats, favourite texture sheets, pin tools, files and sanding foam)
  • It would be very useful to bring interesting things to make impressions with such as leaves, lace, doilies, etc. It would be best to come to this class with an original design in mind, though a number of silicone molds that have been pre-made by the instructor will be available to be used during the class.
  • 22 ga fine silver sheet for colour testing. This can be made into a simple charm if the student desires. Fine silver sheet can be purchased as needed from BeadFX as the class progresses and does not need to be purchased beforehand. It would be very useful to bring any scrap fine silver to the class. Sterling silver cannot be used as a substitute.
  • Ceramic paint palette (available from an art supply store)
  • An unused, natural hair brush as tiny as you can find, such as 000 or smaller (available from an art supply store)
  • Green Scrub Pad (e.g. Scotch Brite)
  • Wet/dry sandpaper. It is important that this sandpaper can be used with water. Regular sandpaper cannot be used as a substitute.
  • Personal sketchbook and pens/pencils
  • As this is a full day class over two days, please bring your lunches. Coffee, tea and cold drinks will be available.

Of special note: the class patterns and instructions from our classes are for your personal use only. Please respect the intellectual property of our artists/instructors by not sharing, selling, or teaching the patterns you receive from the classes you take.
