Hollow Forms in Metal Clay (2 days)

September 21, 2018 @ 11:00 am - September 22, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

Cdn $170.00

Course outline: The strongest form in nature is the sphere and in this workshop you’ll learn why, and how to make non-sphere forms just as strong. You’ll learn how to construct an internal architecture that prevents hollow shapes from sagging. Included are two variations on constructing regular hollow forms (squares, rectangles, circles) as well as using irregular shapes, such as stones, to create asymmetrical hollow forms. In this class we will use either Hadar’s Clay or Prometheus clay.

Prometheus Clay is ready to use straight out of the package. Hadar’s Clay is in powder form and a mixing tutorial is included in this class if participants choose this clay.

On day 1 we will create our hollow forms. On day 2 we will finish any remaining construction, and refine and embellish our forms.

Kiln firing of is included in this class and the final day will conclude with a demonstration, accompanied by written instructions, on how students can finish fired work independently.

This is a two-day class and will be held on Friday, September 21, 11:00am – 6:00pm; and Saturday, September 22, 12:00 – 5:00pm.
