February 2021 Bead Mat Update – More off than on!

My February 2021 Bead Mat Update has been a real struggle. Yes, I’ve been beading, but I’ve also spent an awful lot of time on other art related activities. My beading adventures, are all about this beaded orb right now! I haven’t really done any of intuitive bead embroidery, since the start of the pandemic, but I’m up for changing that. Yes, I worked on my “Dancing” piece, but that’s free-form peyote, so doesn’t fit the bill. In case you’re wondering, this a very addictive, and obsessive process! One day, I may even be able to teach it again. It …

Changing Lanes Again: It’s always fun!

Changing lanes again is always fun, at least to me it is. But then again, I’ve always loved change, even though I’m probably one of the few that actually welcome it. Why would you want to keep doing the same old things, when you get a chance to enrich your life with a whole world of new things. It’s exciting, energizing, but scary just the same. Why not try something new, especially in these social distancing, and quarantining days. Just do it! Heaven knows, we need a dash of excitement in our lives, so why wait? How would you do this? …

Retro Gifting Post: Exploring your options!

My retro gifting post, is not intended as a “how to” post, but rather an introduction to possibilities. Beading, and crafting in general is a pretty wide field, but we are all in it together, so let’s have some fun! First, I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays, or whatever else you celebrate! I know this has been a dismal year, but it’s almost over, and things will get better in 2021, so let’s get crafting! First up on my retro gifting post are some of the simpler items. Next, a little more complicated, but …

This and That 2020 – and that’s how the story begins!

This and that 2020, is definitely how the story begins! What else could you expect? I have not been particularly creative this week, because I was rushing to get some parcels in the mail (all that wrapping is tiring). I made my deadline, so now I get to sit back and relax. Not really, because I still need to work on my in-town gifts, but at least I have a couple more weeks (I work fast!). Toronto, retail is shut down now (don’t get me started on the exceptions, which I’m personally boycotting), so Christmas shopping is a totally new …

What does imagination look like?

Ask me a direct question about my imagination, and I guarantee that I’ll be at a loss to explain it! Imagination, and creativity seem to come easy to me, but I’m not the only one! I call myself an artist, because that’s a label that I was given many years ago, in my fibre art days. Creativity and imagination cannot be separated, and we are all artists! Imagination is not part of some secret club! Own it! You were born with it!! I remember a story my mother used to tell, about when I was a toddler. She said that …

Embrace the imperfections!

Embrace the imperfections, then take time to smell the roses! No one is perfect, so why put yourself down, for something that is virtually unattainable? I posted a partially stitched and embroidered stone, on my Instagram account (amd_artfuldreamer) this morning. I was thinking about how difficult it was to stitch a perfect rock. It’s awkward in your hands, there is no give, and it’s heavy to work with. So, I decided to embrace the imperfections, and just go with the flow! Threads are hanging, the stitches and edges aren’t perfect, yet the colours are sea-like and dreamy! I love the …
