The Holidays Await: Let the good times roll!

The holidays await, but are you ready for them? Not many beading days left, although if you’re not seeing your friend, or family member, until after the big day(s), then there’s still time to whip something up! Cheating I know, but you need to do, what you need to do, to make it all work without tearing your hair out! I didn’t get my mojo working until early December, so I’m behind on some of my projects. When this happens, and it doesn’t happen that often, I reassess my priorities, and pare down the projects. If it’s not done by …

Jewelry Trends for Winter 2022 – and more!

I’ve just been reading about Jewelry Trends for Winter 2022, and I admit that I find this time of year quite interesting. Changing seasons = changes in direction, but sometimes the changes are quite radical. Runway fashion is always extreme, but if you look hard enough, you will be able to spot realistic trends, then interpret them into your own jewelry. The Zoe Report indicates a trend to going big, or going home!! Some of those stacked bracelets, will be incredibly hard to wear comfortably, but what if you stacked just a couple? Silver is back (not that I ever stopped …

Pulp With a Side of Fibre!

Pulp with a side of fibre, refers to the fact that the photos in this blog post, relate to paper, or fabric, or both. My stash runneth over in both areas, so it’s only fair that I get a chance to showcase them today. Let’s start with my paper bowls! I started out making them as plain as can be, but then I challenged myself to embellish them with some beading. I actually used wallpaper paste to form the bowls, but that made them brittle, and hard to easily bead. I’m sure that methyl cellulose would have worked, but instead …

Wee Bits of Beady Goodness!

My focus this week, is on wee bits of beady goodness! I’ll start with that, then slide into some other beauties. You know that I can’t stick to just thing, don’t you? Tiny little landscapes, lovingly embraced by metal bezels. Once upon a time, I taught this course, and who knows, I might be persuaded to teach it again. My family of tiny landscapes! Individual shots. Although I would categorize my Embellished Orb (in progress) as larger than “wee”, it’s very bead intensive, and I’m using all sizes of beads (including 15/0’s), buttons, and other goodies. It’s coming close to …

Landscapes of my Mind!

Landscapes of my mind are near and dear to my heart! I used to call them Serendipity Landscapes, and I expect that I will alternate both descriptions in the future. Dreamy landscapes are probably one of my favourite things to create! Small ones, are even more precious, so I challenged myself to see what I could fit into some of the bezels that BeadFX carries (they’re not just for resin). Ahem, I might add that I’ve probably harassed a few people, to make sure that we get just the right bezels for my tiny landscapes. I do admit that some …

Freeform Frolics – and all that entails!

Freeform frolics is an all or nothing, type of beading, and I simply love it. I started by making earrings, graduated to pendants (including some with natural elements), then finished with bracelets. At least for now, that is! I’ve always been fascinated with freeform peyote, so much so that I joined the Freeform Peyote Beading Facebook group, and lurked there for quite a while, before posting any of my work. Real progress was made, after I purchased the “Explorations in Freeform Peyote Beading” book by Karen Williams. I highly recommend it! I went on to design three different workshops, that …

Beaded Buttons – Plus favourite things!

Beaded buttons are one of my favourite things, but definitely not all of my favourite things. You know that I’m a technique addict, don’t you? All that really means, is that I collect all sorts of things, including techniques! Buttons are some of my favourites, especially the vintage ones. I own a button jar, that was passed on from the family, and although I used them from time to time, I mostly just fondled them a bit. In the pre-Covid days, I was putting my button jar back on the shelf, when I spotted another jar, that contained much larger …

Fragments of the Past – Could spark future projects!

Fragments of the past, often lead to new works in the future. Of course, I haven’t been doing much bead embroidery lately, but it has been on my mind, so all I need to do is jump start the project. The following two photos, are samples from two of my past workshops. Surprisingly enough, despite the fact that I love all of the pieces, I don’t remember ever actually wearing them. Do you find that happens with some of your work? I find that I tend to wear fairly simple jewelry, and oftentimes, no jewelry at all. Isn’t that crazy? …

Back on the Path Again!

After the Easter break, I’m happy to say that I’m back on the path again! At least for now, but who knows what I’ll get up to next week, because I sure don’t. To celebrate, I played with a new type of resin, made a set of earrings, and then wire wrapped loops on a string of colourful Mixed Impression Jasper stones that’s been gathering dust in my stash (we’re sold out of that particular shape, but we do have others). As usual, I have no idea where this is going, so please bear with me. The resin I was …

Just Moseying Around – at least part of the time!

I’m just moseying around, minding my business, and creating a little something, something. Not all bead related, but what else would you expect? A collection of Bead/Stitch Meditation Twinchies (2” x 2”), that I made a few years back. It was supposed to be the start of a series, but it ended up being a very short series. I don’t remember why it stalled, but I was either engaged in something else at the time, or wasn’t fully invested. I really do love these little pieces! I promised that I was going to finish another necklace this week, so instead …
