What are you waiting for? Dream on!

What are you waiting for? Dreams are cheap, but not impossible! But, what about the elephant in the room? It’s St. Patrick’s Day! Not a drop of Irish in my veins (not even whisky), but on this day, everyone is Irish!! With the exception of landscapes, you won’t find a lot of green in my work. However, I pulled out a couple of earlier Bead Journal Project pieces (2007/2008). My first introduction to both intuitive bead embroidery, and visual journaling. I haven’t looked back since! A small bead embroidered brooch, with my hand-painted focal. Sure, and begorrah it has some …

Have a Heart – Give creativity a chance!

Have a heart, because believe me, this post is not all about flowers and candy! I won’t regale you with sappy stories, because creativity is my true love! Do you believe me? If not, you should! Let’s start with one of the oldest hearts in my stash! Made years ago, for no particular reason, except that I loved everything about it! My bead embroidered heart doll! Not tall, not elegant, but certainly delivers the have a heart feeling. A heart from my Bead Journal Project “Leaf” series. Yes, believe it or not, this is the shape of a real leaf. …

Developing your Style!

Developing your style, is really quite easy! All it takes is time, effort, and a whole lot of repetition. I’ve been developing mine for years, but I still have people coming up to me, and saying that they recognize a particular older piece, as one of mine. That’s because I practice, a lot! Plus, I found my artistic “voice” a very long time ago. That “voice”, crosses many boundaries! I started out on the fibre path, switched to beads, then to mixed media, with a large dose of fibre. You might say that I’ve come full circle! I’ve applied, then …

Anatomy of a Project – Let the reader beware!

Anatomy of a project, is what I’ve decided to name this blogpost. Why, because it’s a catchy title, but also because it’s something to think about! I get easily bored, so my solution is to work in series. Oh, my series aren’t all the same, but they do have similar elements. They might be restricted by size, but then again, perhaps defined simply by shapes, themes, or colour. I’ve been working in series since around 2007, when I first joined the Bead Journal Project. The pieces were both size, shape, and time based, but also over-the-top, on my personal bead …

Seeking Joy: In the smaller things!

Seeking joy, is one of those things that we don’t often think about. Buy why? What could possibly bring us joy, in this changing world of ours? Joy could be a hard sell right now, but it’s definitely still there! I don’t normally try seeking joy, when I go out grocery shopping, but just think how you felt, when you found either toilet paper, gloves, or Lysol wipes? I found that particularly joyful, as the toilet paper is not normally a scarce commodity, I only use gloves for art purposes, and Lysol Wipes were not really on my radar. But …

Sweetness and Light: An ode to the heart!

Sweetness and light, is probably the best way to describe Valentine’s Day! But is it? What do you know about Valentine’s Day, and do you celebrate it? I have many sweethearts in my life, but none of them are romantic. Does that make me a Valentine’s scrooge of sorts? Probably, but if it does, I’ll just shrug it off, and continue to live my singular life! I have one website for you to visit for fun facts, then another one for myths. All very interesting, but is that all there is? No, the greeting card companies did not invent Valentine’s …

Itching for Stitching!

I’m itching for stitching, but that’s not a lie! Luckily my elbow feels pretty good now. I’m still putting weight on it gingerly, but stitching is no longer out of the question. However, I think that my get up and go, got up and went! But that will only slow me down, but will not stop me completely. My friend and I, have plans to make some slow stitched needle books, yet all we need is a little time. Of course, I also need to dig out some supplies, but that shouldn’t be a huge problem. I have an infinite …

Challenge Yourself in 2020!

Challenge yourself in 2020, and a new vision will come! Okay, that’s enough of the 2020 vision puns for me, but I’m sure that Dwyn will be taking it a whole lot further, so I’ll let her carry it through the year. I learn by osmosis, so I may not be able to help myself, but I’ll certainly try. The end of this year has been quite challenging for me, since I slipped on the ice. It’s amazing how a small elbow crack, can hamper the work that you do. However, you make do, because nothing else is possible! Self-pity …

Is it time yet? I believe that it is!

Is it time yet, but why do you ask? It’s actually past time, but then that’s something that you’ll just need to deal with. Of course, when I ask “Is it time yet?”, I’m alluding to the fact that the holidays are drawing very close, but what does that mean to you? For me, it’s Christmas, but depending on your family, religious, and personal traditions, many of you, celebrate other winter holidays! It’s all good!! “Is it time yet?”, also means have you made your holiday gifts yet? Part of my holiday tradition, is to make a few handmade gifts …

Colour Cues: Always pay attention!

Colour cues are very special! We all need them, but working with them is definitely not a picnic! Always pay attention! While designing a project, do you automatically decide on the colours you’re going to use, or just work with the ones that you’re used to? Not me! My favourite colours are always in the blue, to blue/green range, but I often force myself to reach for others. Yet what about the old “blue mood” reference? Is it true? My experiences with the Bead Journal Project (BJP), taught me to explore my relationship with various colours.  It’s only natural to think …
