May 2019 Bead Mat Update: Freeform, stitch, and stories!

My May 2019 bead mat update is late in the month, but then so is spring in Toronto! But here it is, and believe it or not, we’ve even had a few, very nice days. Peyote Stitch: A dream of a stitch!

I must admit that peyote stitch is my favourite bead weaving stitch! I adore the simplicity of this stinking stitch! Believe it or not, I actually followed the rules, in the early days! The three bracelets shown below, illustrate the start of my addiction! Statement pendants! Are they the next big thing?

Statement pendants are a current jewelry trend, according to a recent issue of Jewelry Making Daily (Interweave). I find that very interesting, because I’ve been making, and wearing them for years! Does that make me fashion forward? As the article explains, “For spring and summer, pendants of all shapes, sizes, and configurations of materials, on very long strands of beads, chains, or leather cords”. Long lengths are definitely in, but I’m most comfortable with the 30-34″ range.
