February 2018 Bead Mat Update: A technique extravaganza!

Is my February 2018 bead mat update more of the same? Or is it? Only my readers will know!!! You know that it’s February in Canada, when you get winter, spring, winter, spring, and giant potholes! It’s hard to know what to wear, but I’m certainly glad that we’re in the spring phase right now, for however long it lasts.   I’ve never really liked February in Toronto, because in my home city of Vancouver, you would already be seeing signs of spring. Ha! They got snow last week!!! I know, it won’t last long, and the bulbs will be …

Jewelery Layering: Join in on the fun!

Isn’t it about time that you explored jewelery layering? You have boxes and drawers, stuffed full of unloved and abandoned jewelery! How about doing something about it? Image – connoisseurs.com I layer my necklaces, and bracelets, but if I wore rings, I’d layer them as well! I don’t layer earrings, but it’s okay if you do! I’m not a hippie, but I love jewelery layering! I also layer my clothing, as basic black, white, and grey, low necks, high necks, and turtlenecks, are all perfect backdrops for the layered look. Image – Etsy – InaraJewels Free those sad little necklaces! …

Blank Bead Syndrome: Do you ever experience it?

I never though that I would admit it, but I sometimes suffer from the debilitating effects of Blank Bead Syndrome. I bet you’re wondering what that is, and will soon enter it in the Google search bar! Never fear, the answer is here!!! I just made up Blank Bead Syndrome on the spur of the moment. It’s actually a close cousin to Blank Page Syndrome. According to Wikipedia – “Blank page syndrome is similar to writer’s block, but is not a psychological term. It can happen to a writer at any point in time, irrespective of their career success. This …

Favourite bead styles: Working in and out of your comfort zone!

Do you ever bead outside of your comfort zone? We all have our favourite bead styles, but what have you done to challenge that? I just seem to keep beading variations of the same theme. My early bead education, included stringing, and a range of traditional bead weaving stitches. I quickly abandoned them for mixed media, freeform and intuitive beading. Do you think that it’s time that I returned to my roots? Okay, perhaps not entirely, but it would be interesting to see what I could do with traditional stuff! I confess that two, three, and four holed beads, intimidate …

The Twelve Earrings of Christmas Project

It’s that time again! Every year, during our most busy time, for some insane reason or another we decide to do an inspiration every day…for 12 days! This year, to keep the insanity somewhat at a minimum, we limited our inspirations to earrings. Whew 😉   Kidding aside, we love doing this! It’s now been more years than I can remember, and it’s always lots of fun. Dwyn and I worked on these in complete isolation (not on purpose, it just worked out that way). I think some of the similarities in the projects are quite amusing, considering that neither of …

Ok, so who’s ready?

It happens every single year. I’ve got it all under control, and I think that this year will be different. Then, somehow at the last minute I’ve got a good 80 hours of work to do, and less than 30 hours to do it in. 😉 Something has to give, and you spend even more hours trying to figure out what will have to wait, and what won’t. I think I’ve now got the absolute priorities narrowed down. My goal is to be completely finished by Wednesday night, so that Thursday I can clean the house, and Friday can be …

A new version of Inspiration Friday

Shhh – just forget that today is Saturday. Thanks to Lyndsey, who had an awesome idea for a new version of our Inspiration Friday posts.  We think that one week just might be a wee bit too short of a time frame. Also, we want you to choose the inspiration from one of the many colour inspiration sites out there. On Thursday, I posted about design seeds. There are of course many others out there. We think this will be easier for you to challenge yourself, as you’re given a palette to work with, rather than just a picture. Here’s …
