Focus back to beading!

I’m bringing my focus back to beading. At least for now! I have a habit of getting my fingers in too many pies, but I am trying to behave. Remember that I said “trying”! If you could see my beading space right now, you would know what I mean. My beads have exploded all over the place! They need a firm hand! Could I hire a bead wrangler? Do I need an intervention? Ha! I wouldn’t pay attention, but it’s always an option. I took a good look at some of my outstanding projects, then realized that I needed to …

What’s Old is New!

What’s old is new, at least to some of you! I’ve been bouncing around a bit, so I thought that you would like to see some of my work from the early days. This post will be a mix of the old, and the new! I’ll start out with the new, then talk a bit about some of my older projects. If you’ve seen them before, my apologies, but I’m hoping that some are old enough, that they will be fresh inspiration. I designed this bracelet, in response to the new Polymer Clay, Vinyl Heishi beads that Dwyn introduced a …

Tackling the Unknown: Love it or hate it?

Tackling the unknown is one of those love it, or hate it scenarios. You could say that I either love to hate it, or hate to love it!! It all depends. Of course, I’m always tackling the unknown, because that’s just the way I work. I love a good puzzle, and if I can make something, out of nothing, or dress up something ridiculous, then I’m a happy camper. My bead collage necklace fits in with that scenario. Take a bunch of lonely leftover beads, then add a pinch of something new to the mix (I this case, Czech Rolas). …

Waiting for Tomorrow: Because today is a pain!

Waiting for tomorrow is quite the exercise, because today is a definite pain! Wait a minute, but tomorrow is actually today, for the purposes of this blog post. Okay, I’m waiting for today, because it’s actually Tuesday that was the pain. I can handle the heat, but the humidity is a killer. Plus, we’re expecting unsettled weather, so that means the possibility of weather-related headaches, is always in the forecast. Yesterday’s pain was a doozy, so all I really wanted to do was to lie down, turn the lights out, and wait for tomorrow (which is actually today). But I …

An Eclectic Mix: My life in a nutshell!

An eclectic mix is how I describe last week’s adventures. I have multiple projects still in progress, but two are finished.Yeah! I will start with this bracelet, I repaired for a friend. It’s a memory piece, but the elastic had disintegrated. The repair recipe is Opelon elastic, plus small beads between each photo tile, then four slightly larger beads. A couple of surgeons knots, and drops of G-S Hypo Cement, fixed the issue. My slow stitched/Stitch Meditation bottle, was next up in an eclectic mix. More stitching, plus beads, finished the project! I love it!! However, I have no idea …

Tool Time Tales!

Tool time tales are not the sexiest thing in your beading toolbox, but you need them just the same. Otherwise, how would you open, and close a jump ring, or even cut a piece of wire? I absolutely love my tools!! I still have my earlier tools, but my favourites are the ones I always reach for. My Xuron Chain Nose pliers, fit nicely in my hands. I also own their Bent Nose Fine Pliers, Round Nose Fine Pliers, and couldn’t live without my Tapered Flush Cutters. They also have crimping pliers, but no photo, as we don’t currently carry …

Decisions, Decisions – or Transitions?

Decisions, decisions seem to be the story of my life right now. But then again, does this mean that transitions will also play a part? I seem to be in a transitional time of my life. Is it all Covid related, or does ageing also play a part? Probably both, but who’s complaining? I’m old enough to know better, so I’ll just base everything on decisions, decisions! As much as I wanted to focus on beading again, I’m afraid that other techniques have lured me away from my sparkly bits, and the almighty needle. Don’t worry, I haven’t abandoned my beads, …

February 2021 Bead Mat Update – More off than on!

My February 2021 Bead Mat Update has been a real struggle. Yes, I’ve been beading, but I’ve also spent an awful lot of time on other art related activities. My beading adventures, are all about this beaded orb right now! I haven’t really done any of intuitive bead embroidery, since the start of the pandemic, but I’m up for changing that. Yes, I worked on my “Dancing” piece, but that’s free-form peyote, so doesn’t fit the bill. In case you’re wondering, this a very addictive, and obsessive process! One day, I may even be able to teach it again. It …

Have a Heart – Give creativity a chance!

Have a heart, because believe me, this post is not all about flowers and candy! I won’t regale you with sappy stories, because creativity is my true love! Do you believe me? If not, you should! Let’s start with one of the oldest hearts in my stash! Made years ago, for no particular reason, except that I loved everything about it! My bead embroidered heart doll! Not tall, not elegant, but certainly delivers the have a heart feeling. A heart from my Bead Journal Project “Leaf” series. Yes, believe it or not, this is the shape of a real leaf. …

January 2021 Bead Mat Update: Mixing it up again!

My January 2021 Bead Mat Update is mixing it all up again! But what else would you expect out of me? I added a new beaded path, to my free form peyote ‘Dancing’ piece, during the U.S. Presidential Inauguration. The new path, includes the large green heart, that signifies hope, and renewal. Would you believe that I looked down at my bead mat, and there it was? Strange, isn’t it? Where did it come from? I stitched a new orb, and this one is Indigo! What’s next? A beaded one? Perhaps I should stop thinking, and just do! Next up …
