March into BeadFX classes

“Spring is the time of plans and projects.”– Leo Tolstoy Have you noticed the garden centres are starting to ramp up business? Seeds and starter kits are available and bags of potting soil are right beside them. I’m not a gardener (one bedroom apartment in Toronto – no balcony!) but I’m noticing my creative spirit is itching to start doing something new. I need to plant my own ‘seeds’ – maybe in beading, maybe in metalwork, maybe something completely different! I think Spring is like that for everyone – a time when we can implement some of those goals we …

What will you do with your extra 24 hours?

2020 is a Leap Year! As you may know, Julius Caesar created the concept of leap year and was further refined by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 when he created the Gregorian calendar that we use today. Incidentally, it was not an easy change and riots broke out; check out more information on this bit of history here. Whatever the history, you can use your extra 24 hours as you wish. Of course, we hope you’ll join us for a class! Our late-February classes a variety of techniques including seed beading, drilling stones (yes, another class has been added!), soldering, …

No hibernating at BeadFX; there’s too much to learn!

The skies are grayer; the temperature is dropping and the autumn colours are fading. Now is not the time to curl up with a good book! Instead of hibernating, come on out and enjoy a class (or two). We have new classes with Pamela Kearns and Marilyn Gardiner as well as a favourite encore class with Anne Marie Desaulniers. Looking for dedicated time to work on your projects? Check out the open sessions for beading, enamelling and lampworking! Last, but definitely NOT least, Remembrance Day starts off this session. Although open, BeadFX will observe a minute’s silence at 11:00am on …

Happy New Year!

When September rolls around, it is like a brand new year! School starts again with students going into a new grade. Routines get back in place and we make ‘Fall’ resolutions, like ‘We’re going to paint the living room in time for the holidays’, or, I’m going to enroll in new jewellery classes this fall’. BeadFX classes have geared up to include new projects with established instructors as well as opportunities with new teachers. If you had a chance to drop by BeadFX on September 7, you would have seen the new class offerings and met the terrific people presenting …

Cool off Creatively during the Dog Days of Summer

We’re in the midst of the ‘Dog Days of Summer’ – traditionally the hottest part of the season. The origin of the saying doesn’t actually refer to our canine friends but to the placement of the Sun in the in the canine constellation of Sirius. Your trivial tidbit for the day! The air conditioning has been working at full speed at BeadFX as we’ve had a couple of scorching heat waves in Toronto. The comfort adds a benefit to taking a class! Our mid to late-August classes feature new classes as well as encore projects – just in case they …

Come out of winter hibernation with a class

Finally, the days are getting noticeably longer and I’m beginning to get more interested in ‘the outside’. Leave it to me to stay curled up with my beads! Classes have definitely kicked into full gear and early-February has some great opportunities including a new class with Ann Shewan; a new bead embroidery class with Anne Marie Desaulniers and a new wirework class with Lucie Lee.
