What’s a Girl Supposed to Do?

What’s a Girl Supposed to Do? BeadFX Blog Post – 04/13/22 – Anne Marie Desaulniers What’s a girl supposed to do, when she knows that she should be either beading or stitching, but she’d rather just read a book? My inspiration is definitely lacking, despite my steady progress on the 100 Day Project. I guess it’s just a mild case of the blues, but sometimes creative types just need to rest their brains. I’m definitely in a resting phase, but I know that I will eventually come out of it more energized. A little spring in my step would help, …

Working in the centre of the Bead-A-Verse!

You might think that working in the centre of the bead-a-verse (aka BeadFX) is an easy job! But, I’m here to say that it’s definitely not! Just ask my co-workers!! You are always surrounded by sparkly temptation!!! Not only that, but you are also surrounded by creative beaders, whose pieces are positively drool worthy. Also, what about cashing out someone, who has just purchased that string of semi-precious, that you’ve been lusting over for weeks? Rats! Then, how about the weekly updates? You don’t even know that you want something, until you spot it on the Thursday morning update. Temptation …

Working on Some Bits!

This has been a week of working on some bits, and not really doing much that’s brand new. Sometimes you just need to do this, to catch your breath, and get your mind ready for new adventures! So, that’s what I’ve been doing. I wish that I could say that I’m ready for an important project, but that isn’t the case. My mind is still occupied with what’s going on in the world, and for me that’s never a good time to start something new. So, you’ll just need to take me as I am!! First up on the agenda, …

Take it One Day at a Time!

One day at a time, is a mantra that I’ve adopted for the world’s current state of affairs. I need that to help me deal with all the negative news. The world is crazy, people are suffering, and I’m having a hard time focusing on day-to-day issues. But life must go on, so I keep repeating “one day at a time” to myself. There are lots of way to cope with stress, and making art of any sort (or even just working with your hands), will help to calm your mind. I have an overabundant stash of stitch, bead, and …

Just Moseying Around – at least part of the time!

I’m just moseying around, minding my business, and creating a little something, something. Not all bead related, but what else would you expect? A collection of Bead/Stitch Meditation Twinchies (2” x 2”), that I made a few years back. It was supposed to be the start of a series, but it ended up being a very short series. I don’t remember why it stalled, but I was either engaged in something else at the time, or wasn’t fully invested. I really do love these little pieces! I promised that I was going to finish another necklace this week, so instead …

Working on UFO’s!

Three of my knotted necklaces-to-be, are showing in the above photograph. They are definitely UFOs, but I’m determined to finish at least one of them, before next week’s blog post. However, I’m happy to say that I finally finished my torch enameled, copper bead necklace on Monday, and I’m happy with the results. It’s shorter than the other necklaces, but it’s so colourful that it still packs one heck of a visual punch!! I’ve been attempting to organize my stash, but I must say that it’s a slow process, and not really one of my favourite things to do. It …

Off the Rails Again – But I am productive!

I’m off the rails again, but still having fun playing around with my new projects. My beading has mostly fallen by the wayside, but I have some new ideas in my head, so keep watching this space! I did add a few more beads to my Venus Jasper, and Enamel necklaces. You won’t notice much of a difference, but I do. I’ve added more beads to both, and now all that’s really left to do is figure out how to end the silk, then add a clasp. The No. 10 Griffin silk does not fit into either a clam shell, …

Rocking Colour – Now that’s another tale!

Rocking colour is one of my favourite things to do! It’s not just another tale! I follow trends, but then ignore them, and do my own thing. Isn’t that what creativity is all about? But speaking of trends, Pantone has released their colour of the year for 2022, which is Very Peri. It’s a blue, with violet red undertones (blue + red = purple), and very wearable (the boss says so, and I believe her). Instead of waxing poetic about it, here’s what Pantone has to say. Vogue, and Arch Daily shared their opinions. Click on the links to read …

Nostalgia Lives: Or so it seems!

Nostalgia lives at my house, but is that a little crazy? I need to live in the present, instead of digging up the past? But, nostalgia is an indulgence that just keeps on giving! I love ephemera, old linens, fabrics, natural objects, Eco-dying/printing, recycling, and repurposing whatever I can get my hands on. However, I do get distracted, and never hesitate to get messy!! LOL! But what does this have to do with jewelry? Nostalgia lives in old, broken jewelry, but haven’t used all that much lately. BeadFX sells new beads, but I love the challenge of combining the two. …

November 2021 Bead Mat Update: Well sort of!

My November 2021 bead mat update is a little late! Not only that, but I didn’t take any photographs on my bead mat, and my beading projects, are a little sparse. But that doesn’t really matter, because I’m going with it anyway! This project has consumed my time, so should be first up on my November 2021 bead mat update. It’s the free form peyote beading that I stitched onto my latest green orb. It was quite labour intensive, so ate up most of my discretionary beading time, and didn’t leave me a lot of time to make anything else. …
