It’s All a Mystery!

Sometimes, it’s all a mystery why I do what I do? I make beading plans, but then get busy with other projects. Let’s start talking about it! I spotted a glass bottle, that I had saved because I liked the shape. Next, I decided that it should be covered in fabric. So, it’s all a mystery, why this project started the ideas flowing? But what about beads? First, patch the bottle with scraps of cotton quilt batting. Use both straight and running stitches. Then, cover with both fabrics, and text, using the same stitches. Fabric cover finished, then the next …

Bloom into Lazy Daze!

Bloom into lazy daze is going to be my motto for this month. No particular reason, but I do like flowers, so I might show you a few more during the month of June. With Covid and all, I decided to buy flowers for my balcony, the first time in a couple of years. I figure that if I’m going be spending quality time out there, I might as well have something pretty to look at. Nothing fancy, just a couple of pots of deep pink (or are they magenta?) geraniums, plus a mixed basket. I even added ivy to …

April 2021 Bead Mat Update – Random Stuff!

My April 2021 bead mat update is a study in randomness. But then, what else could you possibly expect from me? I’m an intuitive artist! I’m still working on my free form peyote ‘Dancing’ piece. However, I do have an endless supply of time, and beads (don’t we all?), so no end in sight! Marg, the squirrel pincushion is in honour of your recent escapades! Critters to go!! Next up on my April 2021 bead mat update, are the buttons that I just had to have, from the last BeadFX update. Also, a fabulous Luna Moth charm. No project in …

Ready to Roll – Spring forward!

I’m ready to roll, but it’s not only because Daylight Savings springs forward this weekend. Creativity abounds, yet I’m still pushing myself to do more. Why is that? I have always done well with deadlines, though I’m a last minute person! LOL! You gotta do, what you gotta do! Enough of this, now time to blog. Let’s celebrate the return to light! I spotted a girl running by the side of the road, and she had shorts on!! A few degrees above freezing, and people in Toronto go crazy!! Seriously though, the weather is pretty nice. I haven’t started yet, …

Blending Old and New!

The act of blending old and new, isn’t really new for me. But, like everything else, it comes in stages. I’m in a creative phase right now, but I wonder how long I can keep it up. Do I have limits? Will I be up to the challenge? Only time will tell, but I promise to do my best. Blending old and new, is just one way of looking at things. But what that means to me, is that I’ve given myself permission to combine old techniques, new techniques, stash, components, and/or projects, into new 2021 art! It’s a fun …

January 2021 Bead Mat Update: Mixing it up again!

My January 2021 Bead Mat Update is mixing it all up again! But what else would you expect out of me? I added a new beaded path, to my free form peyote ‘Dancing’ piece, during the U.S. Presidential Inauguration. The new path, includes the large green heart, that signifies hope, and renewal. Would you believe that I looked down at my bead mat, and there it was? Strange, isn’t it? Where did it come from? I stitched a new orb, and this one is Indigo! What’s next? A beaded one? Perhaps I should stop thinking, and just do! Next up …

Jewelry Trends 2021 – What do the designers say?

As far as Jewelry Trends 2021 goes, the world is our oyster!! The designers say, what the designers say, but then it’s up to us to interpret them to suit our fancy. I always start by Googling “Jewelry Trends 2021” (insert the current year), and then choose the very best to share with you. Some are lovely, others ugly, then still more, not all that practical. So, we take what we can, out of each design, then make it our own. NYFW (New York Fashion Week), says that pearls, chains, and charms are still hot for Fall/Winter (2020/2021).  Forbes said …

Good Riddance 2020 – Come to Mama 2021!

Good riddance 2020 is an appropriate title for this blog post! It has not been a good year overall, so I’m certainly not sorry to see the back of it. It has been devastating for many, but beading, stitching, arting, and crafting in general, has helped to keep many of us sane, grounded, and in control of our emotions. When this is all over, you will see that there has been a renaissance in the beading, quilting, sewing, and knitting/crocheting movements. I’m sure that there are other crafts out there that I might have missed, but you get the picture! …

What is Artistic Fear? Plus other ramblings!

Artistic fear is just like any other fear, but it’s still a paralysing emotion, that can cause a ripple effect in your life. Let’s start with the definition of fear, but I don’t intend to leave it at that, because fear is not always a bad thing. Definition of fear: “An unpleasant emotion, caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. If you are an artist, then you have definitely experienced artistic fear in your life! It’s that blank page, or canvas syndrome, fear of opening tubes of beads, or even …

Let’s Talk Bead: Then remember to play!

Let’s talk bead, but you must remember to play! Play is as essential as life, and we have a serious advantage, but we do know how to bead! Beading, and other hand crafts, are very therapeutic! They help to lower your stress levels, and who doesn’t need to lower those right now? I don’t want to dwell on the elephant in the room, but instead let’s talk bead! In last week’s blog post I gave you some simple instructions, on how to make a Bead Meditation. Did any of you try this out? If you did, please forward photos to …
