Tool Time Tales!

Tool time tales are not the sexiest thing in your beading toolbox, but you need them just the same. Otherwise, how would you open, and close a jump ring, or even cut a piece of wire? I absolutely love my tools!! I still have my earlier tools, but my favourites are the ones I always reach for. My Xuron Chain Nose pliers, fit nicely in my hands. I also own their Bent Nose Fine Pliers, Round Nose Fine Pliers, and couldn’t live without my Tapered Flush Cutters. They also have crimping pliers, but no photo, as we don’t currently carry …

Bloom into Lazy Daze!

Bloom into lazy daze is going to be my motto for this month. No particular reason, but I do like flowers, so I might show you a few more during the month of June. With Covid and all, I decided to buy flowers for my balcony, the first time in a couple of years. I figure that if I’m going be spending quality time out there, I might as well have something pretty to look at. Nothing fancy, just a couple of pots of deep pink (or are they magenta?) geraniums, plus a mixed basket. I even added ivy to …

May 2021 Bead Mat Update: Splashing about with colour!

My May 2021 bead mat update, reflects my mood for the end of the month. A whole lot of rest, and then some splashing about with colour. To tell the truth, when I completed my #the100dayproject, I didn’t really want to do anything creative for a while. So, I took some time for myself, reflected on the project, then started thinking about possibilities for new beginnings. Yes, I drifted, but sometimes drifting is good! Then, after a bit more thought, I decided to finish up some of my outstanding obligations. I had some handmade driftwood brushes to finish. Check! A …

Working in a Series: One heck of a challege!

Working in a series, is certainly one heck of a challenge! However, it’s something that I both welcome, and enjoy! I’m very selective about the outside challenges that I accept, because I do need to keep my focus on the end result. With the #the100dayproject, it was easy, because the goal was 100 pieces of something. Not hard, because I set the parameters. I need to tell you that I was definitely slowing down at the end. I wanted each piece to be unique, but sometimes all I wanted to do was splash paint on paper. It was quick, effective, …

The Bead Goes On!

The bead goes on, but the question is what does it go on? I will explore that a little further, later on in the blog post. It wouldn’t be Wednesday, if I didn’t update you on my free form peyote ‘Dancing’ piece. Weekends, and TV time are perfect for working on this project, but I get the feeling that it’s actually my excuse to not do any other type of beading. My focus is almost Zen like, so it would be interesting to see what would happen if I turned everything off, then continued beading. Would the lack of noise …

Start a Conversation – with your beads!

If you start a conversation with your beads, you need to make sure that you’re listening. Okay, it doesn’t need to just be beads, but for the sake of BeadFX, I do need to put some emphasis on it. Let’s start with my latest BeadFX Inspiration. I pulled the beads fairly quickly, but when I actually started working with them, found that I didn’t buy everything I needed. So, back to the store, start beading, then return to store, for more stuff. LOL! I’m getting dizzy from all the back-and-forth nonsense. I let my muse have her head (as usual), …

March 2021 Bead Mat Update: Renewing my energy!

My March 2021 Bead Mat Update is another study in contrasts. But it’s spring, so that’s all about renewal. People are wearing everything from shorts, to down parkas. LOL! Locals wear the shorts! I finished my beaded orb, so that’s first on my March 2021 bead mat update! Yeah!! Remind me not to juggle so many projects! My free form peyote ‘Dancing’ piece is in play again. It’s about time! On the bookmaking front, two versions of a wee, Origami Pocket book. Both will fit either a 2″ x 2″ ‘Twinchie’, or a very small book. My latest 100 Day …

Colouring Outside of the Lines – Just because I can!

Colouring outside of the lines is just something that I do! I’ve been doing this for years, so I’m not about to stop now! What does colouring outside of the lines mean for me? I allow myself to work on multiple projects, but I do not restrict myself to any materials, or techniques. That’s what it means! My beaded orb is almost finished. What will I do with it, how will I display it, and was it worth it? I don’t have all of the answers, but it was an interesting, exercise. Any day that I can play with beads, …

What are you waiting for? Dream on!

What are you waiting for? Dreams are cheap, but not impossible! But, what about the elephant in the room? It’s St. Patrick’s Day! Not a drop of Irish in my veins (not even whisky), but on this day, everyone is Irish!! With the exception of landscapes, you won’t find a lot of green in my work. However, I pulled out a couple of earlier Bead Journal Project pieces (2007/2008). My first introduction to both intuitive bead embroidery, and visual journaling. I haven’t looked back since! A small bead embroidered brooch, with my hand-painted focal. Sure, and begorrah it has some …

Blending Old and New!

The act of blending old and new, isn’t really new for me. But, like everything else, it comes in stages. I’m in a creative phase right now, but I wonder how long I can keep it up. Do I have limits? Will I be up to the challenge? Only time will tell, but I promise to do my best. Blending old and new, is just one way of looking at things. But what that means to me, is that I’ve given myself permission to combine old techniques, new techniques, stash, components, and/or projects, into new 2021 art! It’s a fun …
