Blowing Away the Cobwebs!

Blowing away the cobwebs, is something that I had to do this weekend. My mind told me enough, so I needed to relax, kick back, then straighten out my thoughts. First, I paid attention to my priorities, then I had to decide what I was going to do with my weekend time. I must confess that I wasted one whole day (Saturday), but was it really a waste? Or, did my body just tell me that it was necessary? I think so, because my day involved snacking, napping, reading, then a bit of TV. Boring, but it did help to …

Playing with Possibilities!

Playing with possibilities, is my favourite way of working, but is it the only way? I don’t care, because I think that it’s fun! The secret to creativity, is a combination of both play, and hard work. It’s no secret that I like to play, and I’m not afraid of hard work! So, here’s how I’ve been playing with possibilities this week. My Free Form Peyote “Dancing” piece, is thoughtful, absorbing, addicting, flexible, never ending, feels good in my hands, but also carries a message. It’s my visual journal of our life, during this pandemic. It illustrates many of the …

Collecting Collections: But that’s not all!

Collecting collections, seems to be my way of life! I make no apologies, because it’s something that I love to do. I’m not only collecting collections, I also make collections, because I love to work in series. So, this blog post is going to be a little bit of everything, but don’t worry, it will be over fast! Much faster than the actual work, the collecting, then figuring out what to do with it all! I worry that my collections will eventually come to an unhappy ending. But let’s not talk about that!! I really don’t have enough space for …

Developing your Style!

Developing your style, is really quite easy! All it takes is time, effort, and a whole lot of repetition. I’ve been developing mine for years, but I still have people coming up to me, and saying that they recognize a particular older piece, as one of mine. That’s because I practice, a lot! Plus, I found my artistic “voice” a very long time ago. That “voice”, crosses many boundaries! I started out on the fibre path, switched to beads, then to mixed media, with a large dose of fibre. You might say that I’ve come full circle! I’ve applied, then …

August 2020 Bead Mat Update: Welcome to my world!

It’s time for my August 2020 bead mat update! But what’s all that about my world? I’m a crazy, intuitive, right brained (but left when I need to) artist! But I wasn’t always comfortable with the term. I only started calling myself that, when other artists told me that my work had a unique voice, then they began to call me by that moniker. But really, I’m just a mixed-up media girl, addicted to techniques, then creating whatever my muse tells me to make! Do you believe that it’s almost the end of August? Where did the summer go? It’s …

Not a Bead in Sight!

Not a bead in sight, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t still love them! All it means is that I’ve been otherwise occupied, as you’ll see below. A friend of mine, introduced me to Neurographic Line Drawings (here’s the video I followed), and I’m obsessed with the process! It’s addicting! I will let the drawings speak for themselves, but will refine the process over time. Who would have thought, that I’d actually find a bug in my drawing? It crawled right out, then begged for glitz, and attention!! LOL! Over at the Stitch Meditation Facebook group, I put up …

Reflections and Recollections: The time is now!

Reflections and recollections have been on my mind lately. But what does that have to do with the cost of beads, you say? Not much, but it’s a good opening act, so now I’ll get down to fleshing it all out. I’ve been dithering about during this pandemic, yet it might be time for me to start working on my mixed media jewelry again. Oh, I’ve been playing with this, and that, but mainly work of an ephemeral nature, so nothing that I could make into a collection. I was reminded of this, when I received an email from my …

The Search for Perfection: Is it even a possibility?

The search for perfection, is something that stops you from truly enjoying everything you do. Do you agree with me? I was programmed to search for perfection at a very early age? Were you? It’s definitely stressful, I generally ignored it, then went my own merry way! I love free motion machine embroidery, so decided to include it on my “Remnants” scroll (my Stitch Meditation, pandemic project). It’s quite addictive, but that’s no reason not to use it. Here’s my very old (possibly my grandmother’s), hardwood, machine embroidery hoop, that I forgot to use! Oops! In the centre is a …

Anatomy of a Project – Let the reader beware!

Anatomy of a project, is what I’ve decided to name this blogpost. Why, because it’s a catchy title, but also because it’s something to think about! I get easily bored, so my solution is to work in series. Oh, my series aren’t all the same, but they do have similar elements. They might be restricted by size, but then again, perhaps defined simply by shapes, themes, or colour. I’ve been working in series since around 2007, when I first joined the Bead Journal Project. The pieces were both size, shape, and time based, but also over-the-top, on my personal bead …

Hot Jewelry Trends: Spring/Summer 2020!

Hot jewelry trends, for summer 2020 (spring is already a done deal)! It’s just too darned hot to think, but that doesn’t mean that I can slack off! Toronto is melting right now, but at least I have air conditioning. I’m better off than many! There’s no sign of it stopping either! Rain/storms by the weekend, but it warms up again next week. Yes, a few degrees cooler, but still! I don’t normally complain about sunny weather, but it’s not quite the middle of July, and the grass is already getting fried! What will August bring? Now about the hot …
