Play is Good: But beading is even better!

Play is good, especially when you’re teaching a group of very enthusiastic students! I love teaching, but that’s not all, I also love my enthusiastic students!! It’s no secret, that my interests are quite varied, but this month seems to be covering it all. I taught my Needle felted Landscape Pendant class on the 29th, but then I turned around and taught a Resin class the very next day! After working all week, I should be exhausted, but strangely enough, I’m not! When you gather together a group of students, you never really know what to expect, but I must …

Let’s Talk Sparkle: and a few other things!

Let’s talk sparkle, seems to be a funny phrase for me to use! I’ve never been a girly girl, so have always shied away from an overload of sparkle. Is that something that I need to overcome? But, that doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate it! Because I do!! Just yesterday, I was re-stocking some of the Swarovski Rivolis, and Fancy Stones, but took extra time, because I had to fondle, and admire the lusciousness of them all!! There are obvious benefits to working in a bead store, because staff are encouraged to fondle the merchandise, and we let customers …

February 2020 Bead Mat Update: Where did the beads go?

My February 2020 bead mat update is more than a little different! But don’t panic yet, because the beads, in the BeadFX coffers, are safe!! I must confess, that I’ve been more than a little pre-occupied these days, but that’s because of my March schedule. It’s more than a little full!! As it’s a leap year, I’m also lumping February 29th, in with March. So, you see here’s my sad tale of woe. I’m teaching my Needle felted Landscape class on February 29th, then Resin on March 1st. I’m taking my show on the road, mid-March, then teaching three different …

January 2020 Bead Mat Update: Bluesy news!

My January 2020 bead mat update, is a work in progress! Also, I forgot to photograph some of my pieces on a bead mat, but that doesn’t worry me one little bit! My Explorations in Freeform Peyote class ran last weekend, and this is the project that I worked on. Yes, another stone, but with a different colour scheme, and I’m beading again!!! My arm was a little achy the next day, but I managed to bead, while holding a stone in the palm of my hand. Quite a feat, but then who doesn’t want to bead, holding a weighty, …

Itching for Stitching!

I’m itching for stitching, but that’s not a lie! Luckily my elbow feels pretty good now. I’m still putting weight on it gingerly, but stitching is no longer out of the question. However, I think that my get up and go, got up and went! But that will only slow me down, but will not stop me completely. My friend and I, have plans to make some slow stitched needle books, yet all we need is a little time. Of course, I also need to dig out some supplies, but that shouldn’t be a huge problem. I have an infinite …

Is it time yet? I believe that it is!

Is it time yet, but why do you ask? It’s actually past time, but then that’s something that you’ll just need to deal with. Of course, when I ask “Is it time yet?”, I’m alluding to the fact that the holidays are drawing very close, but what does that mean to you? For me, it’s Christmas, but depending on your family, religious, and personal traditions, many of you, celebrate other winter holidays! It’s all good!! “Is it time yet?”, also means have you made your holiday gifts yet? Part of my holiday tradition, is to make a few handmade gifts …

Easy Gifts: Holiday treats!

Making easy gifts, seems to be one of my holiday traditions! But I’m not happy, unless I’m rushing to make something, at the last minute. I do make more complicated gifts, but the easier ones always seem to be my favourites. Why, I wonder? I don’t really like to work on a production line of wee gifties, yet I admit to doing a little of that, during the holiday season. I’m a little late getting started this year, but there’s still time to make a handful of easy gifts! So, let’s start talking about what we can accomplish. Earrings are …

Unfinished Projects: Good or bad?

Are unfinished projects the dreaded enemy? Do they frustrate you, or are you just happy to have an easy project to work on? Before I started adding workshops to my roster, I probably finished off more projects than the majority of people. However, now my workspace is filled with class samples, but those samples are really unfinished projects (UP’s). I make a lot of samples, yet not all of them, should be finished. But of course, I am my own worst critic! What the heck am I supposed to do with the ones that I don’t like? I know that …
