Cloisonne— or more correctly, Cloisonné (pronounced CLOY - zon - EH), — is made of enamelled metal, with a thin strip of metal separating the colours. The root of the word "cloisonne" is from the French, cloisonner - to partition. As French as the origin of the term is - many of them have a distinctly Asian influence.
