The base stone is agate, and it is treated to produce the distinctive graphic lines and shapes reminiscent of the Tibetan Dzi bead. These, of course, at this price, are not Tibetan, original Dzi beads that are hundreds of years old, passed down by generation after generation, reputed to bring good fortune and rumored to have fallen from the sky. Original Dzi beads often have a flat spot or two where part of them has been ground off and added to medicines.
