Karo Beads & Druzy Cabochons

At the opposite ends of the beading spectrum, we have the tight cohesive look of small beads and clever designs taking advantage of the

intricate shapes of the different beads in an almost mathematical approach, and at the other end is the loose and free-form approach of the using whatever and whenever, free-form shapes and flowing forms.

And yet – somehow – these two aesthetics manage to merge in pieces that use free-form cabochons and intricately crafted beaded bezels. Whether your style is precise and controlled, or serendipitous happenstance – we have the beads to make you happy.

This week – we have new building blocks at either end of the spectrum.

New to the shaped beads – Karo beads.

This is a two-hole square bead from Preciosa, with curved edges. They are pulled from 5 mm wide glass tubes – meaning that they are relatively consistent in sizing, and cut to length.

How are these different from the other two hole flat square beads? Let’s take a look.

The Silky beads have a flat back, and a raised speed bump on the front, but the huge, obvious difference it the holes put it on the diagonal.

The bead Studs rise to a pyramid on top. The colour selection is limited, and these didn’t really seem to take off.

The Czechmate tiles are a little larger, and part of the Czechmate hole spacing pattern (The two holes center on 2.5 mm apart, approximately.) There aren’t as many colour choices either.

The Miyuki TILAs are probably the closest for comparison. Lots of colour choices, and of course, the Half TILAs and Quarter TILAs as well

Just for fun – here is the Karos and the Tilas side by side.

On the other end of the spectrum, as I mentioned, we have a new selection of one of a kind Druzy Cabochons!

The last round of druzy cabochons that we offered just flew out the door – so we hope that you enjoy these just as much, and if you missed out the first time around, maybe you’ll get to snag some this time! These are free form shapes, and natural colours.
