Inspiration Monday: Fairy Kiss

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Fairy Kiss by: Dwyn Tomlinson I have to admit – I just flat out stole this idea from a young friend with rockin’ taste. This fairy light hair ornament looks like an earring from a distance, but actually clips into your hair with a small comb – which means that you can wear it large and with no weight on your ear lobe at all – and means you can still load up with earrings too if you want! The basic idea is a small comb or hair clip, a long tether, and the dangle …

Inspiration Monday: Neon-ista

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Neon-istaby: Rochelle Kilmer Walking around the malls and seeing what is in fashion got me to thinking about all the neon colours. I am not a person to wear a neon shirt or pants and I thought having a stunning piece of jewellery with the neon daggers would be fashionable. This is the piece I camp up with using the neon daggers and brushed metal tubes. Make the tubes: Put the tube on an eye pin and make a loop on the other end. Add the daggers to the triangle bails, and close up the …

Inspiration Monday: Ring a Bling Bling

Enjoy! InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing by: Dwyn Tomlinson It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that bling … . Surely I must have used that before somewhere! Our new ring bases are just beautiful – with the heft of fine jewelry.  We bought some big sizes too – so you could even design a signet-style ring for your dude. Probably with less Swarovski’s than this though! Because these are made to be quite random (except for the one with the single rivoli) – take the component list as a starting point – rather than a definitive list. …

Inspiration Monday: Bling it On

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Bling it On by: Malliga Nathan Bling it on, Bang the Gong, Put it On! It’s so sparkly I could die! Any of the rhinestone cup chains colours would look fabulous (and we have more coming). Rough up the surface of the metal – both the brass cuff and the back of the cup chain, to ensure adhesion. You could choose a narrower cuff base too if you wanted something more restrained (but why???) 😉 Pre measure and cut the cup chain. Apply the glue to the back of the cup chain (a toothpick is …

InspirationFX: One Tough Ombre

Get your creative juices flowing by: Dwyn Tomlinson The other trend that is hot this year is “ombre” – shaded colours. (Especially the hair – love the ombre hair! Anyone think I should try the ombre hair?) Now – I’ve always been fond of shaded colours – the current trend in neon colours is – IMHO – a flash in the pan. I like bright – but the neon is a like a perky house guest – fun for a few days – but by the end of the weekend – you’re relieved to see them leave. Not so with …

Inspiration Monday: The Origin of Life

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing The Origin of Lifeby: Dwyn Tomlinson This shipment of Blue Green Quartz – well – sorry – but I can’t hear the phrase “blue-green” without thinking of “Blue Green Algae” or Cyanobacteria – the bacteria that started photosynthesizing and churning out oxygen as a by-product – thus changing the planet’s atmosphere from largely carbon-dioxide to one with enough oxygen for a whole new biodiversity to evolve. It may be bacteria (ick) but – yay – oxygen = eventually – US! So hooray for blue green algae – we wouldn’t be where we are today without …

Inspiration Monday. Another one!

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Cuff Bangle Blingby: Dwyn Tomlinson Is it a bangle? Is it a cuff? It definitely blings! This hollow core leather means that you can slip some wire down the center, which gives is a strength and rigidity that it wouldn’t otherwise have! These Rivoli adorned end caps are sized to take Regaliz 10 mm leather, or 2 strands of the 5 mm leather, and as we don’t have the hollow core 10 mm in (yet!), I went with the red (Ruby Boa) leather, which I adore, btw. You can use Memory wire to stiffen the …

Inspiration Monday: Hooked on Leather

InspirationFXGet your creative juices flowing Hooked on Leatherby: Dwyn Tomlinson You’ll be hooked on leather, once you find out how easy these bracelets are to make. You’ll need a length of the 5 mm round leather, approximately twice the length of the bracelet you want to make. Fold the length of leather in half. If you are adding a decorative bead (like the red sample below) add it now, by sliding it over the two cut ends, and sliding it down, out of your way, towards the folded middle. Any of the Regaliz beads will do nicely. It helps to …

Inspiration Monday: Key to the Future

I had intended this to be timed for making graduation gifts. Apparently – I am so totally out of the loop – graduation was months ago. OK – I don’t have kids – I don’t know what the school and college schedules are. All I know about current events is what I get from reading Doonesbury. 😉 by: Dwyn Tomlinson Graduation: the keys to the future. Look forward, and the possibilities are limitless. The future is like that – it can take you anywhere. If you have a milestone to mark, a graduate to congratulate, or a reason to celebrate, how …
