December 2018 Bead Mat Update: Greetings from this part of the world!

My December 2018 bead mat update came way too soon! How can it possibly be December 26th? Rats!! I’m not sure that I accomplished as much as I wanted to this year!!!

Pillow from a friend. Nice and festive!

Aren’t the goals we set for ourselves crazy? Sometimes they work, and at other times, they don’t. However, one thing that I do know, is that we never have time to do everything we want to do! The older we get, the seemingly busier we get, and that isn’t about to change!!!! So, we might as well just go with the flow, and take it easy on ourselves. Ahhh! Doesn’t that feel better? Zen for the mind!!

December has been a busy month for me, but I still managed to squeeze in a few handmade gifts for friends and family, as well as fodder for my December 2018 bead mat update. I actually forgot to photograph many of the pieces, but I did make a couple of freeform earrings (none shown, due to my not remembering to take photos), a handful of simple earring pairs, and a couple of sparkly sets!

I even managed to make a bracelet for myself, out of the leftovers. The clasp is a little large, but it’s all I had in my stash. I’ll probably change it out later. Imagine, all this out of one single strand of random star cut stones (and I still have extras)!! We still have some in stock, but you’d better hurry! I think that they will be snapped up fast!!

Now that I’m more relaxed, I’ve been able to take up the needle (both literally, and figuratively), and start working on a few of my ongoing, and unfinished projects.

First up, #99 in my 2018 Stitch Meditation series. I call it “Out of darkness comes light” for obvious reasons. It contains a resin piece I made, the last time I taught the class (one more coming up in January), plus cuts from a recycled linen runner, a fabric sample, and a piece cut from a shirt gifted to me by a friend. Did I ever tell you that I like recycling stuff? BTW, I hope to start working on #100 later today!

Freeform peyote has become a passion for me, and it shows on these bracelets! I used them as teaching samples, in my last couple of classes (sorry, not on the schedule right now, but phone the store if you’re interested). The blue one is older, and hasn’t quite decided if it wants to be a necklace or a bracelet.

The brown/bronze one is my latest, and although this colour combination has never been a favourite, I find that I’m really warming up to it!

See these delicious Lunasoft cabs? Would you believe that I have two different plans for them? More about this in 2019!!

Next up, on my December 2018 bead mat update, is a dancing doll that I started who knows when? I’ll be teaching another bead embroidered doll class in 2019, but I’m afraid that this baby has been waiting far too long, for her sparkly embellishments. She’s not the doll I actually teach, but I do like to demonstrate other possibilities.

Despite the time of the year, this holiday season is unusually mild for Toronto. More like Vancouver, I think, but my feeling is that every day without snow, is one day closer to spring! Sorry if you don’t agree!

That’s it for my December 2018 bead mat update! I’m hoping  that you all had a very happy and safe Christmas, and a happy holiday season to  those that do not celebrate. I’m going to spend today snacking, watching cheesy movies, reflecting on  2019 projects, and playing with a few beads and threads!!! Either that, or helping my friend unpack moving boxes!
