The rule of thirds is a compositional rule of thumb used in the visual arts.  Check out the wikipedia article for more info, but simply designing using the rule of thirds is thought to create more visual interest. Same goes really for using odd numbers, rather than even numbers of beads.

I really didn't have it in mind when I was designing this bracelet, but it was of course quite obvious once completed ;-)

This bracelet came to be as I fell in love with the faceted african turquoise tabs, and they accidentally found themselves next to a broken strand of firepolish that I must have used for a previous inspiration - Lucky for us, we still had them in stock!
