Smokey Mountains

by: Rosemary Beasley

The recent popularity of the the "Eurostyle" or Pandora/Troll/Biagi-type bracelet has generated a lot of interest from customers who are inspired by their styling and the movement of the beads. I was assisting a customer in the store and we were trying to come up with ideas for a bracelet she had in mind, when we started experimenting with the Beadalon jewelry cable, and we realized it could be cut to length.  After she left the store, I continue to play with the cable and here are the results.

The Jewelry Cable by Beadalon comes in 3 thicknesses and in silver plate and gold plate, giving you a number of options. I used the 1.19 mm medium cable in silver for this project. It goes through the 10 mm Swarovski rounds but not the 10 mm bicones. The thinner cable (0.92 mm) will go through both the 6 mm rounds and  the 6 mm bicones. The heavy cable measures 1.37 mm thick.

How to cut jewelry cable:
Each package contains a 20 inch long piece of cable which can be cut to length. The most economical way to cut the cable is into one 7 inch piece and two 6.5” pieces. Normally the 6.5” pieces with closure would make an average sized woman’s bracelet but because of the diameter of the Swarovski crystals used in this project you may need to use an extender chain on the closure, use the 7 inch long piece or cut a longer piece to suit.

Work out your arrangement of beads before stringing. Constant stringing and unstringing beads could cause the cut ends to fray (See photo).

After stringing your selection of beads on the cable, the ends are finished with Scrimp Cable Ends with loop. Use the Scrimp tool from the starter kit. You can also try a small screwdriver such as those used for eyeglasses although I am not sure if they will work since I have not had a chance to try them.  (I do know that the scrimp screwdriver is excellent for fixing glasses, however!)

Note: When you are stringing beads on the cable that are a tight fit, be very careful not to untwist the cable.
